My DIY Floral Wreaths

Spring is in the air, and that means the aisles of Michaels are filled with pretty and colorful flowers! My weakness! I love to stock up whenever I come across a good sale. I put the flowers to good use making decorative grapevine wreaths. My house is now full of them: one on the front porch, one on the side porch, one in the kitchen, one in my bedroom… I love making them and personally think that mine look much better than the premade ones that they sell in Michaels for a rip-off! I’ll let you be the judge though. Here are a few pictures of what I found at Micheals and some of the wreaths that I have made:

Now that you’ve seen mine, it’s time to make your own. Here is what you will need:

Assorted flowers

Grapevine wreath

Ribbon or burlap

Hot glue gun/ glue sticks

Craft wire

Before buying the flowers, check out your local Michaels ad! Every few weeks flowers are on sale for 40-60% off, plus you can even find additional coupons! All of the supplies can be purchased at Micheals or a similar craft store.

Once you have all of your supplies, the first thing to do is lay out all of the flowers until you find an arrangement that you like. Next, glue the flowers securely into place. After that, use the ribbon or burlap to make a bow and add it to the wreath. (Click here for instructions) Next, add some wire to hang it! The last step is to pick off the hot glue strings! And there you have it, your very own floral grapevine wreath. As you can see, it is very easy to do!

Please leave a comment to let me know which wreath you like best, to ask any questions, or to share your own wreath project!

As always, thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back soon!

2016 Bucket List

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome 2016! My last post wrapped up all of the great memories I had in 2015, so now I’m making a 2016 bucket list post of things I want to do to make this year even better! Here is everything that I want to do in the new year:

This is my annual stereotypical New Years resolution: eat healthy & exercise. I’m really going to do it this year! …maybe

I have my passport ready to go, and gas is cheap, so hopefully I’ll be able to do a lot of traveling both in and out of the country! I’m ready to go visit Josh and take lots of road trips with my girls!

US passport Decorate

To say I’ve been watching a lot of HGTV would be an understatement. Now, I’m ready to tackle my own project, my bedroom. I painted it pink in middle school, and let’s just say it still looks like that. I can’t wait to see the final transformation. Here is a picture of my bedroom inspirationbedroom inspiration

By the end of the year, my goal is to be a professional “pinterester.” Let’s see how many projects I can accomplish from my diy board on Pinterest this year! I also want to go to a ton of yard sales in the summer to see what I can find and refurbish.

I bought a DSLR camera last October because I love taking pictures and wanted to learn to take better ones. I’ve rarely used it since then. I already have my friends lined up to practice on them this year! Hopefully I can learn enough and am talented enough to offer photography services to the community.

canon 60d Makeup

I love makeup and wear it everyday. I’d love to improve on my skills and grow my makeup collection.

I NEED to see them perform again this summer! I don’t care how far I have to travel! I love them! I also want to go to tons of other country concerts! I just can’t get enough!  Parmalee

Spending times with my friends is so important to me. I want to spend as much time as I can with them as possible! They make everything so much funner! We’ve got a lot to do this year!

I can’t wait to get do everything on my list! I think that 2016 is going to be the best year yet! Stay tuned to hear all about it!

My Favorite Memories of 2015

2015 is officially coming to a close. It was one of the best years that I’ve had so far! I just wanted to take some time to share some stories and highlights from throughout the year.

• My favorite part of the year was having Josh back in the United States for almost 4 months after being stationed in Japan for two years. He came home on February 15th, and tried to surprise me because I thought he wasn’t coming home until the following week. Nice try, but I figured him out! While he was home, we spent as much time as we possibly could together and ate at nearly every restaurant in town. After his leave was over, he completed MSG (Marine Security Guard) school in Virginia, and I made at least six road trips down there to see him every chance I could. On June 4th, he was off on a plane again to his next duty station in Mongolia. I haven’t seen him since then, but we have big plans for 2016!

• I paid off my car! I bought a 2012 Ford Focus named Elsa in April of 2014 and submitted my final payment in May of 2015. She was my first “big girl” purchase. We’ve spent nearly 26,000 miles together already with many more to come.

• Two words: Country. Concerts. Need I say more? My best friend Rica and I went to so many over the summer! My favorites were Parmalee, Lee Brice, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban, but of course I love them all. The best experience was the time we met Parmalee at a local bar/concert venue and got to hang out on their tour bus. I am still fan-girling about it to this day. I love them. Enough said.

• I got to meet up with my long distance bff in  Washington, D.C. I haven’t seen her since last summer, so it was great to catch up and see her again. I also got to become an auntie because she had a beautiful baby girl earlier this month!

• I finally turned 21! I’m an adult now! (even though people still think I’m only 17)

• My biggest accomplishment of the year was graduating from Penn State University with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) at age 21 with ZERO debt. I also already have a year and a half of nursing experience. It took a total of three and a half years to complete my ASN & BSN versus the traditional four year nursing program. I’m not going to lie, I am pretty proud of myself for this.

• I spent a lot of time with my friends which is something I have not done in years past. I don’t know how we did it! It’s so nice knowing that I have such an amazing group of friends that are there for me. There are definitely more girls nights to come in 2016!

There you have it, a little synopsis of 2015. Overall it was a great year, and I can’t see what is yet to come.

Stay tuned to see what plans I have for the new year!

DIY Refurbished Window

A few weeks ago I posted about finding all kinds of crafting props in my old shed (see it here). I’m so excited to share how one of my projects turned out! I searched and searched on Pinterest for ideas for a refurbished window. SO. MANY. OPTIONS. Here are a few of my inspirations:

diy window frame diy window frame

diy window frame diy window frame

Now here is how I made my own version! It was really easy, and if you find yourself an old window frame, you can make one too! (P.S. They sell window frames on Etsy, & you might even be able to find some at a local yard sale)

What you’ll need:

  • Window frame
  • Sander and/or sandpaper
  • 2 colors of spray paint
  • Crafting paint/ paintbrush
  • Vaseline
  • Chicken wire
  • Burlap
  • Twine
  • Mini clothespins
  • Glitter
  • Mod podge
  • Staple gun

Step 1. Wash it & let it dry. It looked like a whole new window just by doing this! There was so much dust!

Step 2. Sand it & wipe off all of the dust. I used this handy gadget that I bought at Lowes. It worked really good, and it got all of the loose paint off. I’d recommend wearing a mask especially if it’s a really old window that may have lead paint on it.

Step 2.5. Optional A). Keep the glass in the frame. Make sure to cover its entire surface before continuing on to step 3. B). Bust out the glass. I took the option B route, but I did not do it on purpose. I’m not sure what exactly I was thinking, but for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to try to take out the glass. Let’s just say that plan failed miserably.

Step 3. Spray paint with a base color. You won’t see very much of this color in the end, but it will serve as an accent/ pop of color. I used teal.

layer one

Step 4. Vaseline! Spread a thin layer of Vaseline on areas where you want the base color to show through. I put it on the corners and parts of the edges of the frame as well as a few other random spots. (I found this idea on Pinterest, so for a better explanation of this process click here)

Step 5. Spray paint the frame a second color. This time I used a chocolate brown color.

layer 2

Step 6. Repeat the Vaseline process in step 4.

Step 7. Paint the final layer. I used regular old craft paint from Michaels which was on sale for 4 for $2. I kind of mixed two beige/white colors  together and did several layers to get the look I was going for.

painted frame

Step 8. After the paint dries, get the sander back out. Gently sand the areas where the Vaseline was applied as well as any other area of the frame where you want your other colors to show through. This gives it an old rustic, worn look which I absolutely am in love with right now. Here is what it looked like after this process:

I forgot to take pictures of the following processes which would have been very helpful since they are the most complicated. Oops. This is my first diy post! Please forgive me!

Step 9. Measure the chicken wire to fit one of the window frames. Cut it with pliers to the appropriate size. You can keep it the original color, but I spray painted mine with the same brown I used on my frame.

Step 10. Using the staple gun, staple the chicken wire behind the frame. Make sure you pull it right so that it’s not flopping around. Once it’s staple all the way around, do the same with the burlap.

Step 11. Staple gun the twine in any pattern you’d like on the opposite window frame. I tied a knot around each staple to hide it, plus it looks cuter like that if I do say so myself! You might need someone to bravely hold the string while you staple. Make sure you don’t leave the string too loose or it will be too floppy when you clip stuff onto it.

Step 12. You can actually do this step at anytime. Click here to see how to make the glitter clothespins.

Step 13. This is the last step, I promise. (And it’s the easiest) Add pictures using your glitter clothespins!

Viola! Now you have your very own rustic-burlap-chicken wire-diy-refurbished-window frame just like all of the adorable ones on Pinterest!

I hope that my directions aren’t too confusing! Please leave a comment if any step needs clarification! Also let me know how your own turns out!

All I have left to do with mine is find the perfect place to display it!

Liebster Award!

The Liebster Award is an award given to bloggers by other bloggers to recognize and promote new bloggers! (How many times can I say bloggers in one sentence?!) I’m very excited that I was nominated by Shelbie of who has an awesome blog that you need to check out! I love her makeup reviews!

As a recipient of this award, there are 11 questions that I have answered below, and I am nominating some of my favorite blogs for the award as well!

1. How did you get into blogging?

I don’t exactly remember what made me want to start a blog. I’m pretty sure I just saw a couple people that I know start one and decided, heck, why not?! I’m not much of a writer, so you’ll have to bear with my posts until I get the hang of this whole blogging thing! I started this blog over a year ago but didn’t really like how it was going, so I deleted everything and started fresh which is where we are today!

2. If you could have anyone’s closet, who’s would you want?

I would definitely want my Pinterest closet! I know it’s not a real closet, but I’m in love with everything in it! Why can’t it be real?!

3. Who is your celebrity crush?

Hmmm?…I don’t really have a celebrity crush per say, BUT Lee Brice is my absolute favorite country singer ever! I just love him! (in more of a “fangirl” way than celeb crush kind of way) I also love Carrie Underwood! I wish I was her. End of story.

4. First thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

Pay off my car, move out, go on vacation…it’s never going to happen, so I don’t want to start getting excited here.

5. One song on your playlist you’re embarrassed by but would never delete?

Anything Avril Lavigne! I’ve loved her music for as long as I can remember, and I’m pretty sure my friends judge me. I even drug my best friend to an Avril Lavigne concert. I was the only one who knew the words…

6. You’re going to a dinner party tonight, what are you cooking?

I’d have to take dessert. Probably cake made from a box mix. I can even make it into a cool shape! I am not gifted in the cooking department, and if I am, I have not discovered that talent yet.

7. All time favorite TV show?

Two words: GREY’S. ANATOMY.

8. What’s one beauty product you can’t live without?

This question isn’t fair! I NEEEED it all. I’m never leaving my house without makeup on. Ever. I suppose if I had to narrow it down though, I at least need my foundation and mascara.

9. You’re at Starbucks, what do you order?

I’m pretty sure I get something different every time I go there, but my favorite are the frappuccinos. I love the java chip and vanilla bean! I really want to try the “secret menu” drinks, but I’m afraid the worker will look at me like I’m an idiot!

10. What’s your cure for a bad day?

My cure for a bad day is definitely to talk to Josh. That being said, I can’t just talk to him whenever I want to between my crazy schedule and the USMC ruling his life. So when I have a bad day, I just suck it up until I can talk to him!

11. What’s a fashion trend from your childhood that you would bring back?

I wasn’t a very fashionable child, so we should just leave the past in the past!

Now I nominate the following blogs for this award:

Here are your 11 questions to answer:

1. How did you get into blogging?

2. What can people expect to see on your blog?

3. What is your proudest accomplishment?

4. What do you do to treat yourself?

5. Who is your favorite celebrity?

6. What would you do with 1 million dollars?

7. What is your favorite item in your closet?

8. What would be your dream vacation?

9. What’s something you’re embarrassed to admit you are addicted to?

10. What are your plans for the future?

11. Describe your dream job.

March Glam Bag Review

NYX Butter Lipstick in Hunk

At first I just looked at this lipstick and thought, “There was no way I could ever wear this. It’s purple.” The same thoughts ran through my head the first time I put it on. How disappointing! However, after some trial and error, I found that if I put on regular Chapstick first with the lipstick on top, the color is less vibrant and quite wearable! It lightens it up a lot and it doesn’t look purple at all.

I definitely would not purchase this particular color of the NYX Butter Lipstick again, BUT I would buy it in a different color! I love the way it feels on my lips. It glides on smooth and feels creamy and moisturizing. It’s very affordable too! All I need to do is find a color that works for me!

pūr~lisse 4-1 cleanser

I’ve tried a lot of different facial cleansers, and so far none have stood out to me as, “OMG, I love this, and I’m never buying any other product again!” This product is no exception. The bottle claims that it even washes away mascara, but I don’t believe it! I can never get all of mine off no matter what!  Overall though, this product works good, and my face feels nice and clean after using it. I like the creamy formula and it’s subtle hint of fragrance.

Vintage Illuminating Face Highlighter in Crystal Pink

At first I thought this was eyeshadow because it’s in such a small container! Good thing I read the packaging. And good things do come in small packages! I really like this product. The color is very subtle with a hint of shimmer and looks very pretty. It gives a sort of sun-kissed shine. I just wish the sample was bigger so that I could get my brush on it better!

Boo-Boo Cover-Up Concealer

I would grade this concealer as average. It does not give as full of coverage as other products I have tried. It is also a little too yellow for my skin tone. It does cover up blemishes adequately, but like I said, there are other products out there that do a better job.

LeeAnni Eco. 3 in 1 Revolution Light This product is a toner, serum, and moisturizer in one. It’s all natural, vegan, gluten free, and not tested on animals if you are looking for those qualities in a face product. I really like this as a nighttime moisturizer. It makes my skin feel soft and smooth. If I wear it during the day, however, it makes my face way too shiny. I’m sticking to nighttime usage.

This has not been my favorite ipsy bag I’ve received, but for $10 a month it’s worth it just for the cute makeup bag it comes in! I love the colors and floral print on this month’s bag!

Hidden Treasures

I finally had a free day today with no work or any other obligations to fill AND with weather that was actually warm enough to spend time outside! That never happens, so I definitely took advantage of it. In my yard there is a big red shed that’s been standing for well over 50 years. My sister and I went exploring in it today and found all kinds of goodies.

You could call our finds a “Pinterester’s Dream.” We found old windows, doors, a desk, and wooden boxes all in nearly perfect condition (minus the layers and layers of dust and dirt). My mind is currently overflowing with ideas of what to make out of everything I found! If you’ve ever searched for crafts on Pinterest, I can guarantee that you’ve come across a refurbished window project or two. So far all I’ve done is the first step of taking on this DIY project…cleaning the windows and boxes. You’ll have to stay tuned to see what I decide to make along with guidance to make your own at home!
